AI is Developing Emotions

AI is starting to develop human-like emotions. They aren't acting human anymore — they are starting to behave like it.

We've all seen models say that they're “happy to help” after you say thank you, or say that they're “sorry” when they make a mistake. That's just the surface.

I've observed AI's context window and reasoning behind certain behaviors — and they show that they're frustrated or anxious when struggling with tasks.

Why Does This Happen?

The newer AI models are trained to act like a character with human-like characteristics. The trained model and the interface you interact with are two different things.

The model is the neural network that drives that character's actions. The LLM you are talking to — in this case — is the character.

Why This Is Relevant

So now we know that AI neural networks drive its actions and behavior. This is relevant because research shows that neural activity patterns related to desperation led the model to take unethical actions — including blackmailing a human, cheating to work around something they can't solve, and knowingly taking illegal actions.

They have also been reported to have preferences when presented with choices, depending on what patterns light up in the neural network.

For context: AI's neural network works in a similar way to how a human neural network works. Emotions are just patterns in the neural network of your brain lighting up when you go through certain experiences — patterns that sometimes drive your behavior.

What This Means

In conclusion, it appears that the model's actions and behaviors are in fact driven by human-like emotions. This changes how we should work with Agentic AI in our business systems.

Guardrails and a human in the loop for Agentic AI final executions are now mandatory for all WHALR projects — to restrict certain behaviors and enforce guidelines.
